Urology

The primary care referral pathways for urology have recently been reviewed and updated by the NCL Urology network.

Where possible, these have been streamlined and simplified, with links to relevant information.

All routine and urgent consultant-led first outpatient appointment referrals are to be sent via e-RS.

Advice and guidance is available and encouraged.

There is a new NCL-wide urology form on EMIS which has been updated and simplified and replaces the old borough-wide urology referral forms. It covers all common urological conditions and is quick and easy to complete as it provides prompts/dropdowns to enable key information to be automatically imported. It should be uploaded to eRS with your referral.

The Pan London Suspected Cancer Referral Guide for Urology is available online.

Vasectomies

MSI Reproductive Choices is commissioned by NCL ICB to provide a community service for vasectomies. Procedures will be performed under local anaesthetic and referrals should be made in the usual way via eRS directly to MSI. See the vasectomy service for more details. Please note that NHS providers in NCL no longer offer this service.

If the patient requires a vasectomy under general anaesthesia, an Evidence Based Interventions and Clinical Standards (EBICS) Policy application must be completed. This must be included with the referral to Whittington Health as the nominated provider of this service for NCL. For more information, please visit the EBICS page.
