A clinic to meet the needs of ambulant patients who have catheters and require planned non-urgent catheter changes.

Eligibility Criteria

Inclusions

  • adults aged 18 and over
  • ambulant patients who are able to mobilise independently on to a clinical couch
  • blocked urinary catheters
  • catheter bag changes
  • routine uncomplicated urinary catheter changes (Male, Female and Suprapubic)
  • uncomplicated Trial Without Catheter (TWOC)

Exclusions

  • those with known damage to the urethra, including reconstructive surgery or recent pelvic radiotherapy
  • history of difficult catheterisations or previous stricture
  • acute prostatitis
  • patients with known complications on catheterisation e.g. frank/gross/macroscopic haematuria
  • acute retention or first-time urinary catheterisations
