Advice and Guidance is promoted to access specialist support about clinical queries relating to patient care while working within primary care. This may be appropriate when you might have previously considered a referral.

The main point of access to advice and guidance is either from eRS advice and guidance or Consultant Connect.

Following the Infected Blood Inquiry report, May 2024, the UK government has stated:

• 8a: Patients with a history of blood transfusion before 1996 must be offered hepatitis C testing.
• 8b: New patients should be routinely asked if they had such transfusions.
