Safeguarding Adults

Islington

Visit the NCL Adult Safeguarding topic page for regional/national information and resources, and for details of the Islington safeguarding professionals.

Safeguarding adults means protecting the health and wellbeing of adults at risk, enabling them to live safely, free from abuse and neglect. An 'adult at risk' is someone who may be in need of help because they have care and support needs.

See also Mental Capacity.

Prevent is part of safeguarding and is the government's strategy for counterterrorism (CONTEST). The aim of Prevent is to divert people who may be susceptible to radicalisation. The Islington borough Prevent lead is Karen Brown.

Creative Solutions Panel

The need for the Creative Solutions Panel arose as a result of several serious cases in Islington involving people who were not compliant with traditional service delivery and did not respond well to the standard interventions. On review, it was felt that these cases would have benefited from multi-agency creative thinking to devise potentially innovative and creative approaches to mitigate the risks.

The Islington Safeguarding Adults Board has been considering the various models of addressing these complex cases and, after weighing up the advantages and disadvantages of various models, the board has agreed to trial a Creative Solutions Panel. See Downloads for more information.
