Phlebotomy, Adult: WH
NCL WideThe Whittington Health (WH) phlebotomy service remains open for urgent tests and for patients who need to come in for regular tests, such as medication monitoring.
Please note: This is no longer a walk-in service.
Booking an appointment
Appointments can be made at Whittington Hospital for patients aged 16+ via Swiftqueue.
Patients can be asked to book their own appointments via Swiftqueue once a SunQuest ICE request has been completed.
If you ask a patient to book their own appointment:
- Send the patient a text message, give the patient the WH Swiftqueue URL, or instruct the patient to visit the WH website and search for 'blood test'.
- A sample text message could be: "We are now using a system called Swiftqueue to book blood test appointments. Please click here to schedule your blood test appointment. You will need to register for an account and Swiftqueue's Help Centre can provide assistance if required."
- Practices can download and print a poster which explains to patients how they can book their own blood test appointment.
To book an appointment on behalf of a patient:
- To use Swiftqueue, create an account (should take around two minutes to complete). If prompted for a secure code, the code is sw1ft45
- Practices can download a user guide with step-by-step instructions if needed.
As of May 2023, Swiftqueue will only provide the option to book at Whittington Hospital. Swiftqueue will soon be introduced at WH community sites but, until then, GPs can continue to refer and book blood tests at WH community-based sites as per normal.
Sending SunQuest ICE (Clinisys) forms to Whittington Health
At Haringey and Islington practices where SunQuest ICE is installed: Please continue to request blood tests for your patients via SunQuest ICE.
For more information on how to use the system, visit the SunQuest ICE page.
Same-day bloods
Haringey and Islington same-day blood requests are only available at Whittington Hospital, Level 5. There is very limited capacity, so appointments will only be given if there is a valid medical reason indicated in the request.
Patients can book an appointment AFTER the request form has been sent.
Informing patients about their visit
- Please ask your patients to attend their phlebotomy appointment with a face covering.
- Patients should arrive no more than ten minutes before the booked time.
- Patients should not book or attend an appointment if they have symptoms of COVID-19.
Please note: Walk-in patients will not be attended to.
