Phlebotomy, Adult: Wood Green CDC

NCL Wide

Adult phlebotomy services provided by Wood Green Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC).

Opening hours 8.30am-4.30pm Monday to Friday, and 9am-4.30pm on Saturdays.

Appointment-only service

The Wood Green CDC is now offering an appointment-only service instead of its initial walk-in service.

All blood samples are processed by the Whittington Health (WH) pathology and North Middlesex (NMH) pathology teams, which gives the teams better oversight and ensures that results are easier to share with practices. To receive results directly, practices must be set up as a trading partner on EMIS. For support with this and for results email whh-tr.pathology@nhs.net and nmuh.sra@hslpathology.com

WH continues to provide phlebotomy services across Haringey and Islington.

See Resources for the full CDC clinical model and for the phlebotomy referral and reporting pathway.

Booking an appointment

Patients for routine blood tests can book appointments online using SwiftQueue or via telephone: 020 7288 5626.

The service would appreciate your support with encouraging patients who can, to book their appointments online as this helps the CDC to improve waiting times and reduce the possibility of overcrowding.

SwiftQueue allows patients to see appointment times, make a booking at a time of their choice, reschedule, and cancel their appointments at the Wood Green CDC.

GPs can directly book blood test appointments at Wood Green CDC using Swiftqueue as far as they are registered. Practices registered on SwiftQueue can directly book all blood test appointments for their patients.

Booking phlebotomy appointments at the CDC via e-RS:

  • once in e-RS, practices should choose diagnostic pathology selecting specialty 'blood test'
  • practices should inform the patient of the generated UBRN and password, along with the booking telephone line and online weblink. The patient can then book their appointment time
  • do not select 'defer to provider' when initiating the appointment process for your patients
  • there is no need to email a blood test form
  • patients can book an appointment AFTER the request form has been sent

Attending an appointment

Patients are advised to arrive at the CDC no more than five minutes before their appointment time.

Accessibility

Wood Green CDC does not have an access ramp for bedbound patients or those needing transport via trolley or stretcher.

Hence, the service is unable to accept patients requiring NHS Transport services.

The CDC can accommodate patients who can move in and out of a wheelchair independently or with minimal assistance.

Should you require assistance or equipment to help you mobilise, e.g. hoist, it is available at the CDC but you are kindly requested to you bring your own sling with you if possible.

Sending SunQuest ICE (Clinisys) forms to Whittington Health

At Haringey and Islington practices where SunQuest ICE is installed, please continue to request blood tests for your patients via SunQuest ICE. The CDC accepts blood requests via TQuest, however, the blood request form must be printed for the patient to bring along with them.

For more information on how to use the system, visit the SunQuest ICE page.

To support learning, the CDC wants to hear from primary care colleagues.
