Memory Service

Haringey

Haringey Memory Service (HMS) provides clinic-based assessments of patients with the aim of diagnosing and managing dementia. The service is made up of a team of psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, occupational therapists, an admiral nurse, a dementia navigator (Age UK), and associate mental health workers.

HMS commonly sees patients who have a diagnosis of mild cognitive impairment, Alzheimer's dementia, vascular dementia, dementia in Parkinson's disease/Lewy body dementia, and frontotemporal dementia.

Following diagnosis, HMS provides a variety of post-diagnostic support services for both carers and patients with dementia, including:

  • Tom's Club: A social group held in the community for carers and people with dementia to attend together
  • Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST): A short-term course proven to help with memory difficulties
  • Carers Information and Support Programme: An information programme for carers who wish to learn more about dementia and support that is available in Haringey
  • Admiral Nurse Service: Specialist nurse service focused on the needs of carers
  • Strategies for Relatives (START) Service: An eight-session CBT-based manualised intervention which supports the development of coping strategies for carers of people with dementia.

The service will make post-diagnostic service referrals if appropriate once assessment has been completed. If the patient declines referral at the time but changes their mind later, they can contact HMS directly to self-refer.
