Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service
IslingtonProvided By
Islington Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) provides a mental health assessment and treatment service for children and young people aged 0-18 in Islington. It also provides assessment of neurodevelopmental conditions for children and young people aged 5-18.
The service offers specialist assessments and interventions for young people with low-to-severe and enduring mental health needs, alongside community-based teams offering a range of targeted services for children across the age range and with a variety of presentations in schools, children's centres and within partner agencies.
Note: For neurodevelopmental referrals a school proforma must also be completed. This can be accessed on the NCL Waiting Room and includes further referral information such as threshold for the service.
An NCL pathway for mental health crisis in young people is in use for young people presenting in mental health crisis (with or without physical health needs) across Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey and Islington, including the acute trusts within NCL.
Two crisis hubs have been set up at the Northern Health Centre and Edgware Community Hospital. Young people presenting at hospital emergency departments who don't require additional urgent medical attention will be diverted to these hubs.
If a child or young person is in crisis and needs same-day CAMHS input, clinicians should contact the NCL CAMHS Crisis Team.
This may avoid an unnecessary long wait in A&E as some cases can be seen in a CAMHS crisis hub or managed remotely by their crisis team.
There is also a CAMHS crisis line for public use: 0800 151 0023
