Acute Foot Service: Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals

For patients with acute foot pathologies, such as non-healing foot wounds complicated by infection, peripheral vascular disease and Charcot Arthropathy.

The service runs an outpatient Diabetic Foot Multi-Disciplinary Clinic every Monday afternoon. This comprises of endocrinology, microbiology, vascular and podiatry. Orthopaedics are available on request.

The Acute Foot Service podiatry team specialises in advanced wound care therapies, including thorough assessment, sharp debridement and advanced dressings techniques of acute foot pathologies.


Eligibility Criteria

Inclusions

  • Patient has diabetes and/or peripheral vascular disease with a foot wound.

Exclusions

  • Routine nail care
  • Ingrown toenails
  • Routine callus/corn removal
  • Missed routine community podiatry appointment 
  • Systemically unwell patients should attend the Emergency Department, who can call podiatry to the ED or ward to attend a foot problem 
  • For critical ischaemia/wet gangrene, the patient should attend the Emergency Department at the Royal Free Hospital.
  • The team does not provide a domiciliary (home visiting) service

The inbox is monitored Monday to Friday, 8am-5pm. Out-of-hours, acutely unwell patients should attend the Emergency Department.
