Acute Foot Service: Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals

The Acute Foot Service at Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals is for patients with acute foot pathologies, such as non-healing foot wounds complicated by infection, peripheral vascular disease and Charcot Arthropathy.

The service runs an outpatient Diabetic Foot Multi-Disciplinary Clinic every Monday afternoon. This comprises of endocrinology, microbiology, vascular and podiatry.  Orthopaedics are available at requests.

The Acute Foot Service podiatry team specialise in advanced wound care therapies. This includes thorough assessment, sharp debridement and advanced dressings techniques of acute foot pathologies. Routine and general footcare (nail cutting, corns and calluses) services are not available.

The team do not provide a domiciliary (home visiting) service. 


Eligibility Criteria

Inclusions

  • Patient has diabetes and/or peripheral vascular disease with a foot wound.

Exclusions

  • routine nail care
  • ingrown toenails
  • routine callus/corn removal
  • missed routine community podiatry appointment 
  • systemically unwell (the patient should attend A&E who can then call podiatry to attend if a foot problem or see them on the ward if the patient is admitted)
  • critical ischaemia/wet gangrene (the patient should attend A&E at the Royal Free Hospital)

The inbox is monitored Monday to Friday, 8am-5pm. Out-of-hours, acutely unwell patients should attend A&E.
