Diabetic Acute Foot Podiatry Service: NMUH

The North Middlesex University Hospital (NMUH) provides an acute diabetic foot service. .
The service will:
- reduce major and minor amputations
- reduce A&E admissions and length of stay
- improve patient outcomes, including morbidity and mortality
Eligibility Criteria
Inclusions
Diabetic patients with:
- hot, swollen foot
- foot ulcer with sepsis, cellulitis
- new foot ulceration
- sudden onset of foot pain (Charcot foot)
- gangrene/ischaemia
- puncture wounds/foreign body in the foot
Exclusions
- non-diabetic patients
- routine nail care
- routine callus/corn removal
- missed routine community podiatry appointment
- critical ischaemia (see vascular pathway)
- leg ulcers
