Urgent Suspected Cancer: Other Tissue Types

NCL Wide

When making a USC referral (previously known as two-week waits or 2WW), please ensure your patient understands that they have been referred on a suspected cancer pathway and that they should make themselves available for diagnostic tests and outpatient appointments for the next 28 days.

For details of how to refer in the case of non-specific symptoms, see the Urgent Suspected Cancer for Non-Specific Cancer Symptoms: Rapid Diagnostic Centres page.

For breast pain, consider the Breast Pain Clinic at RFL.

It is important for practices to have a robust safety netting system. For information see the EMIS user guide.

The most common tissue-specific cancers have dedicated tissue-specific service pages (See the Related Services list, below). Urgent referrals for suspected cancer in other tissues should use the forms below.

Imaging needed before referral for USC

  • Referral for lung cancer requires a GP DA urgent chest X-ray
  • For pancreatic, liver or gallbladder cancer include any abdominal CT/MRI/ultrasound scan
  • For brain cancer, include MRI/CT where available

If imaging results support USC referral, use the forms below.
