Suspected Cancer Two-Week Referrals (2WW)

Urgent referrals to see a specialist on the two-week-wait pathway (2WW) can be made for the following suspected cancers:

  • brain and CNS
  • breast
  • children's
  • gynaecology
  • haematology
  • head and neck
  • lower GI*
  • lung and pleura
  • ophthalmology
  • sarcoma
  • skin
  • upper GI
  • urology.

*All patients with symptoms and signs suggestive of possible colorectal cancer should have a FIT test before referral unless they have a rectal or anal mass or anal ulceration. Read the changes to the LGI 2WW Pathway (11 June). See Downloads for how to order/reorder FIT kits.

Urgent referrals for suspected cancer should be sent using the appropriate referral forms:

  • 2WW - Children Suspected Cancer
  • 2WW - Gynaecology Suspected Cancer
  • 2WW - Haematology Suspected Cancer
  • 2WW - Head & Neck Suspected Cancer
  • 2WW - Lower GI Suspected Cancer
  • 2WW - Lung Suspected Cancer
  • 2WW - Ophthalmology Suspected Cancer
  • 2WW - Sarcoma Suspected Cancer
  • 2WW - Skin Suspected Cancer
  • 2WW - Upper GI Suspected Cancer
  • 2WW - Urology Suspected Cancer

Where to find the forms

In local EMIS global document library systems, search the 2WW Cancer Referral Forms folder using the keyword format: 'Urology Suspected Cancer' etc.

Send by e-Referrals, not fax or email. Book directly with the preferred hospital (not via CHI RSS).

When referring a patient

Please ensure they are aware of the urgency and reason for the referral and are available and willing to attend an appointment within two weeks.
