COVID-19 vaccine

RSV vaccine

From 1 September 2024, two new RSV vaccination programmes were introduced following JCVI advice:

  • Older adults aged 75 to 79 years
  • Pregnant women, to protect infants

The RSV programme is now established, with supporting resources available including the RSV vaccine GP Toolkit (Preparation for RSV Delivery GP Toolkit) developed by the NCL Prevention and Vaccination team ahead of the programme launch.

Adult RSV vaccination schedule

Cohort Eligible group Offer Criteria
Routine programme Adults turning 75 on or after 1 September 2024 Single dose of RSV vaccine From 75th birthday until the day before 80th birthday
Catch-up programme Adults aged 75–79 on 1 September 2024 Single dose of RSV vaccine Eligible until the day before 80th birthday (with first-year exception for those turning 80 during 2024/25)

Shingles vaccine

The shingles vaccination programme changed in September 2023 to a two-dose programme (Shingrix®). Moving into year 2 of the new programme, practices should keep the same preparation in place to ensure that the programme is delivered seamlessly. The preparation for shingles delivery GP toolkit remains available to support practices.

Every practice is encouraged to put in place monthly processes to monitor data quality during the year, rather than do a big tidy up exercise before the year end. This should mitigate further potential income losses.

Email the NCL Vaccination and Prevention team are available for support.
