The Royal Free London (RFL) Ian Charleson Day Centre (ICDC) provides all aspects of care for people living with HIV, including:

  • a walk-in HIV testing service
  • treatment and monitoring
  • management of co-morbidities in specialist clinics, including kidney disease, cardiovascular disease, respiratory disease, tuberculosis and hepatitis co-infections, and metabolic disorders
  • a dedicated frailty clinic for older patients
  • women's services, including gynaecology, antenatal and postnatal clinics, as well as contraception and menopause advice
  • testing and treatment of sexually transmitted infections
  • psychology and psychiatry services
  • outreach and lost-to-follow-up clinics
  • urgent care via a walk-in clinic
  • inpatient care on a dedicated inpatient unit.

For healthcare practitioners

For non-urgent queries, including medication and medical queries, email: rf-tr.icdcdocs@nhs.net. Please note that this email address should not be given to patients, it is for queries from healthcare practitioners (HCPs) only.

For new diagnoses or urgent advice, HCPs should call the HIV ward consultant on 07929 790 948 (Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm). Please note that this number should not be made available to patients.

For out-of-hours advice, HCPs can contact the HIV SpR or Consultant via switchboard.

For patients

For HIV testing, patients can walk into the clinic within the designated opening hours for immediate, confidential HIV testing.

Existing ICDC patients who require an urgent review should call 020 3758 2029 and press option 2 for nurses. The patient can usually be seen within 48 hours (Monday to Friday).
