Under Review — this page was due to be reviewed by Thursday, 15 February 2024. The information shown here may be outdated.

All families face challenges and sometimes need support. Early Help is about providing this support as soon as possible to tackle difficulties for children, young people and families before they become more serious. The service works with the whole family and the child or young person is at the centre of all.

Working with partners, Barnet’s 0-19 Service provides help and support to families, children and young people up to the age of 19 (or 25 with a disability).

The service aims to:

  • provide the right help first time that meets identified needs
  • improve outcomes for children and young people
  • prevent the escalation of issues that would then require statutory intervention.

The service offers:

  • Early Help Assessments
  • Universal Plus family support
  • evidence-based parenting group programmes
  • evidence-based CODA (children overcoming domestic abuse)
    • previously known as AVA (against violence and abuse)
  • group programmes for women and children
  • graded care profile
  • parent and child mediation
  • low level parental conflict
  • Barnet integrated clinical services (BICS)
  • universal and targeted outreach and group activities for under fives
  • positive activities and interventions for children and young people
  • targeted youth intervention
  • welfare advice
  • employment advice
  • other interventions, such as one-off workshops, groups, and pro-active signposting to other agencies.
