Weight Management Programme for Adults: Healthwise

Barnet

Healthwise's 12-week lifestyle weight management programme (tier 2) is a group weight loss programme for overweight or obese adults, delivered in accordance with NICE guidelines.

The programme comprises of a weekly, one-hour nutritional session at a local leisure centre. The delivery of each session focuses on goal setting, facilitated discussion, social interaction and support, with the ultimate aim of promoting healthy eating. Participants are also signposted to structured physical activity sessions to encourage an active lifestyle.

The Healthwise approach embeds motivational interviewing in its delivery to ensure that the programme not only informs and upskills participants, but more importantly elicits meaningful and sustainable changes in lifestyle behaviours.

All patients referred to Healthwise by a GP or healthcare professional will require a membership (£25 per month or £4.50 pay or play) to participate in the programme. Referrals into the weight management programme sit under the NHS Digital Community Services Data Set (CSDS), which means a certain amount of data is securely shared with NHS England and Improvement (NHSE/I).

The CSDS data set is used by NHSE/I to produce anonymised/pseudonymised reports. These reports help Healthwise and NHSE/I to improve the care provided to patients and other service users. Patients can manage the choice about how their confidential patient information is used beyond your own individual care by NHSE/I, including your rights to opt out.
