Lung Function Tests: Finchley Memorial Hospital CDC
NCL WideProvided By
Lung function tests carried out by respiratory physiologists are available for GP direct access. The service operates Tuesday to Thursday, 8am-6pm.
Tests aim to measure how well a patient's lungs are working and how well oxygen breathed in from the air moves to the blood and waste carbon dioxide is breathed out of the body.
The following tests are available:
- co monitoring
- fractional expiratory Nitric Oxide (FeNo)
- full lung function tests
- spirometry with bronchodilator response
- spot check pulse oximetry.
Please note that spirometry cannot be performed if the patient has had any of the following in the past six weeks:
- haemoptysis of unknown origin
- heart attack
- untreated pulmonary embolism
- pneumothorax
- eye, chest or abdominal surgery
- chest, abdominal or cerebral aneurysm.
Patient results
Results are provided back to the referrer electronically (by the clinician themselves) within seven to 10 days.
Result reports are sent to GP practices via Docman Connect and include a physiologist's interpretation to help GP practices better understand the results. (See the guidance from Royal Free London on how to interpret lung function tests.)
