Interpreting Services: LanguageLine

LanguageLine provides interpreting services in over 200 languages and dialects.

Eligibility Criteria
Inclusions
- patients registered with an NCL GP.
Exclusions
- Islington patients requiring face-to-face British Sign Language (BSL) support should always use the Islington Council service.
How to Refer
Telephone interpreting
The telephone interpreting service is available on demand with no need to book. It can be used when a patient is with you or if you need to make an outgoing call to a patient.
Please note: You will need to provide your access code, practice name and required language. See Downloads for further guidance.
Face-to-face interpreting
To book face-to-face interpreting:
- log in using the username, password and access code provided by your practice manager
- click on ‘make a new booking’ and enter the details (complete all fields marked with asterix).
British Sign Language
The BSL service application is available in the UK from 8am-5pm.
LanguageLine can also provide face-to-face BSL interpreting where essential. Islington patients requiring face-to-face BSL support should always use the Islington Council service.
Written translations
With immediate effect, all service users to submit their written translation requests via the SmartMATE Guest Order tool rather than by email.
What is SmartMATE Guest Order?
- It is a simple, secure, web page ordering tool where the service user enters the information about their request in the relevant fields, uploads their files to be translated and presses submit. A user guide can be found below in the downloads section.
What are the benefits of SmartMATE Guest Order?
The tool has been designed to ensure:
- A secure, consistent way to submit written translation requests.
- All relevant information is captured in the right format, first time round.
- The project set up process in our translation management system is semi-automated from the request form, eradicating the risk of human errors and speeding up the quotation process.
- No log-in details are required for service users.
How to access SmartMATE Guest Order
- To access the tool, visit the Smart Mate website.
- Alternatively, service users can access all interpreting and translations services via the languageline website.
- Pathway: Client Portal menu to the Public Sector Managed Services page, providing access to all interpreting and translation services in one place, including Submit a Translation Request which opens up SmartMATE Guest Order.
What happens next?
- From 1 May, the translations team will reply to any email requests by asking service users to submit via SmartMATE Guest Order.
