British Sign Language Interpreting Service: Islington Council

The in-house team at Islington Council provides British Sign Language (BSL) interpreters, lip speakers and other communication support to enable access for deaf people to primary care and community-based health services within Islington.
Eligibility Criteria
Inclusions
- universal service, available for any deaf person eligible to access primary care or community-based health services within Islington.
How to Refer
Islington Council BSL Interpreting
To arrange interpreting services for a patient, call or email the service using the contact details above.
Healthcare staff can also refer using the self-referral routes below.
Self-referral
Deaf patients can contact the service by emailing interpreter.signlanguage@islington.gov.uk or by using the following alternatives:
- SMS (text messaging): m: 07860 025025
- Facetime: facetime://interpreter.signlanguage@islington.gov.uk (Apple devices only)
- Skype: Islington Sign Language Interpreting Service
- video calls are available via the LanguageLine link on practice computers (some practices will also have a LanguageLine tablet).
Please note: LanguageLine should never be used to arrange face-to-face interpreting services; always use the council service above.
