Diagnostic Spirometry: WH

Haringey

Spirometry comprises several breathing tests to measure the function of the lung. It is essential for confirming an accurate diagnosis of COPD and may aid in the diagnosis of asthma and other lung conditions in line with ARTP spirometry guidelines 2023.

The spirometry service accepts referrals from primary care. Patients may be referred for diagnostic spirometry or in some instances, for monitoring in the event of worsening symptoms. This will be determined by the clinician responsible for the care of the patient. The service provides diagnostic Spirometry and if requested/indicated, post bronchodilator spirometry and reversibility studies FENO Testing (from November 2023). The referring clinician must clearly indicate rationale/question on the referral form, particularly if referral made for monitoring purposes.

Spirometry is provided from 2 community-based centres Lordship Lane and Hornsey Central

If post bronchodilator or reversibility testing is required, the patient must be prescribed a salbutamol inhaler and spacer for the test.
