Dental Community Service: WH

This Whittington Health (WH) service is for adults and children with complex needs who are unable to use or access general (or high street) dental services.
Eligibility Criteria
Inclusions
Children aged 15 years or younger with:
- severe anxiety who are not able to cooperate, or who may need a general anaesthetic
- physical or learning disabilities
- medical conditions that require special provision
- a need for specialist care (e.g. sedation, management of trauma, hypoplastic teeth)
or who are:
- looked after or considered at risk.
Adults (16+) with requiring special care, including the following examples:
- severe physical disabilities, including bariatric (severely overweight) patients
- moderate to severe learning disabilities
- dental phobia
- complex medical conditions
- severe mental health problems including dementia
- long-term drug and alcohol problem
along with those that are:
- housebound, such as frail elderly people
- homeless.
Exclusions
- patients who can attend primary care dental care (patients should always be initially advised to attend a local dental practice).

Access to this specialist service is by referral only and inappropriate referrals may be rejected.
