Barnet Wellbeing Service

Barnet

The Barnet Wellbeing Service is an early intervention and prevention service delivered in partnership with local charity organisation and statutory services. This focuses on improving the emotional and physical wellbeing of residents in Barnet.

The service comprises of three parts:

  • Barnet Wellbeing Hub: the 'front door' delivered by Meridian Wellbeing
  • Community Interventions: Wellbeing workshops delivered by New Citizens Gateway, counselling services delivered by Mind in Enfield and Barnet and wellbeing services for young people aged between 18-25 years delivered by Barnet Young People Thrive, recovery college delivered by Mind in Enfield and Barnet and Barnet Friends amongst other services

  • Clinical Support: A blended offer from Barnet, Enfield, and Haringey Mental Health Trust and VCS partners delivered by clinicians offering IAPT therapeutic services, psychoeducational workshops, and webinars.

Barnet Wellbeing Hub (delivered by Meridian Wellbeing)

This provides a single point of access to the Wellbeing Service which can further connect residents to over 350 interventions. These can be talking therapies, wellbeing and community activities, advocacy services, and information and advice.

It provides a flexible, holistic, person-centred approach focusing on an individual's needs and wellbeing, starting with an Emotional Health Check.

The hub hosts a weekly multi-disciplinary team discussion on complex cases, involving clinical managers from NHS services, adult social care and secondary care mental health link workers. It also delivers a Wellbeing Café at the Meritage Centre every two weeks that offers a safe, social and networking space for service users, as well as:


Barnet Friends (delivered by CB Plus)

A telephone befriending service where volunteer befrienders are matched to an individual to provide companionship and emotional support and signpost to activities and services.

The inclusion criteria is anyone:   

  • aged 18-55 experiencing loneliness and isolation
  • with an undiagnosed or low-to-moderate mental health diagnosis
  • that would like support to develop positive mental wellbeing
  • ready to take active steps to work reducing their social isolation, improving their confidence and self-participation by working towards goals as part of a bespoke wellbeing plan
  • who is a resident receiving secondary care support from their local trust (individuals will be connected with wraparound care).

Recovery College (delivered by MIND in Enfield and Barnet)

Designed to support the recovery of Barnet residents with moderate to severe mental illness and enable them to self-manage their mental health condition by developing a range of skills and self-awareness. The Recovery College offers a range of courses designed to promote mental wellbeing by increasing confidence and developing tools and skills to support their recovery journey.


Community IAPT services (delivered by New Citizens Gateway)

New Citizens Gateway provides psycho-education workshops and 1-2-1 counselling for residents who live, work and study in Barnet.

These are based on IAPT principles and delivered within community settings by qualified therapists in Farsi, Arabic, and Pashtu. The service is for adults in exile whose first language is not English and who are experiencing common mental health symptoms such as mild-to-moderate depression and anxiety.


Barnet Young People Thrive

BYPT offers wellbeing webinars and workshops to young people aged 16-25 years transitioning to adulthood, providing mental health support for young people who struggle with poor mental health associated with mild-to-moderate anxiety disorders but do not meet the adult services' threshold.


Eligibility Criteria

Inclusions

  • Barnet residents
    • of working age (16+)
    • experiencing mild-to-moderate mental health needs and psychosocial issues
  • For individuals that are receiving secondary care support from their local trust, the service may be able to connect individuals with wraparound support to support their care plans.
  • The service does not reject users based in other boroughs, and will make connections with local services where possible.

Referral methods: Email

Referrals from GPs/allied health professionals are preferred, with details of any known history and identified risks. Complete the Wellbeing Hub Referral Form – Barnet and email to referrals@barnetwellbeing.org.uk

For Barnet Friends, complete the Befriending Referral - Barnet Community form and email to befriending@communitybarnet.org.uk
