Installing New or Additional Software

NCL Wide

Installing additional software on ICB laptops and PCs

Apart from the standard core software installed on all ICB Laptops and PCs, additional third party software and applications can be made available for installation.

All new software and applications must be vetted by the Technical Assessment Group (TAG) and where required will follow information governance.

Getting third party software vetted

  1. Log onto the self-service portal: https://nhsncl.service-now.com/sp
  2. Log a call for the installation of third party software.
  3. This request will be triaged to the Additional Service Request (ASR) group and forwarded to TAG for vetting.

Once successfully vetted, the requester will have the options to either have the software/application deployed to a whole site(s) or to provide staff with the ability to individually install the packages themselves via the ICB Company Portal.

The Company Portal

This is a location that is available on every NCLD laptop and PC. It lists all vetted software that is available for staff to install by themselves should they wish to.

Steps to access the Company Portal

  • When logged on to an NCLD laptop or PC with valid NCLD credentials, look for the search field on the bottom left of screen.
  • Type Company Portal and the following will be displayed. Click on the Company Portal (App).
  • The following window will open. This represents the Company Portal home page.
  • By selecting see all, the Company Portal window will give you access to all the software that are currently available for installing.
  • If you are searching for a specific application, use the search field at the top of the portal window.
  • Once the appropriate software to install has been selected, click on the icon. In the following window, take the time to review the description information that is associated with each software install. It provides information relating to:
    • any software prerequisites
    • installation times
    • where a device restart (single or multiple) is required
    • or a license in some cases.
  • Once the process has completed, a completed/finished pop-up notification will be seen on the bottom right corner of the screen.

Note: The steps explained here are for individual installations. For a site-wide software deployment, follow the instructions below.

Site-wide software deployment

  • When logging a call on the self-service portal on https://nhsncl.service-now.com/sp, for the installation of third party software, it must be clearly stated the software deployment is for a whole site. Otherwise, the software will only be made available on the Company Portal after vetting.
