The Elfrida Society provides the following advocacy services for people with learning disabilities who live in Islington:

  • one-to-one community advocacy
  • one-to-one Care Act advocacy
  • peer advocacy
  • health advocacy including a monthly health podcast and online workshops
  • specialist advocacy for parents with learning needs involved with children services
  • free sport sessions with professional sport coaches
  • weekly art enterprise workshops

Community advocacy: Spot purchase by local authority

Community advocacy can cover a range of areas, but typically individuals are supported with issues related to housing, benefits, health, debts, social care support and social inclusion.

Care Act advocacy: Spot purchase by local authority

Care Act Advocacy provides a service for people who are going through a social care assessment, review or a safeguarding inquiry who don't have an appropriate adult supporting them. 

Peer advocacy: Free

We have a committed peer support group for adults with a learning disability who can speak up on any matters to council teams and commissioners. Adults with learning disabilities with any issues they'd like to raise can share their views by email or by phone.

Health advocacy: Free

Health advocacy to support people with learning disabilities to attend health appointments, make referrals and understand jargon. We also have a monthly health-related podcast and online workshops covering mental health, physical health and sexual health.

Specialist parents advocacy: Spot purchase by local authority

The specialist advocacy service for parents with a learning disability and neurodiversity includes support with court proceedings in all matters related to child protection and child in need cases.

Sport sessions: Free

Various sport sessions for anyone over 16 years to attend with or without additional support workers. All sessions are free and led by professional coaches.

Limitless art sessions: £10

Weekly art enterprise sessions for adults with learning disabilities to create their own artwork and design their own merchandise for local sale. £10 per session; this must be pre-booked in advance.
