Pharmacy Needle Exchange Programme

NCL Wide

The Pharmacy Needle Exchange Programme provides sterile injecting equipment, specialist advice and information on treatment options to help prevent and reduce drug-related harms and transmission of blood-borne diseases such as hepatitis and HIV. It also offers guidance on safer injecting practices and signposts to related health services.

Community pharmacy needle exchange services often have contact with injecting drug users who are not in contact with other services; therefore the community pharmacist can play a key role in supporting engagement with services.
