DVT Investigations: RFL
NCL WideProvided By
Direct access vascular studies service for ambulatory patients with suspected acute deep vein thrombosis at RFL, with same-day follow-up in ED or haematology for confirmed cases, and secure email communication of results to the practice.
Should the patient not be found to have acute DVT, the GP retains responsibility for follow-up.
Eligibility Criteria
Inclusions
- see inclusion criteria on request form (includes modified Wells clinical score).
Exclusions
- patients whose care would require special infection prevention and control precautions
- patients not registered with a GP
- patient who are not ambulatory, as the service cannot accommodate them via the direct access referral route; consider sending ineligible patients to local Emergency Department.

Referral methods: Email
Referrers should also telephone the department directly via 020 7830 2862 to agree a timeslot for a same-day appointment for the patient, capacity permitting. After this, complete the DVT Investigation Referral Form - NCL - RFH, including the agreed appointment time on the form, and send to rf-tr.vascularstudies@nhs.net
