Bariatric Medicine: UCLH
NCL WideProvided By
UCLH weight management services will assess, initiate, up-titrate GLP-1 receptor agonist therapies. Patients will be discharged back to general practice for ongoing prescribing once they are stable and seen by the Behavioural Support for Obesity Prescribing (BSOP) programme .
Please note: patients referred to this service cannot be included in the numbers for QOF indicator OB005.
Eligibility Criteria
Inclusions
For patients meeting criteria:
- ≥4 qualifying comorbidities (hypertension, dyslipidaemia, obstructive sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes mellitus), and BMI≥40; BMI threshold reduced by 2.5 kg/m2 for people from South Asian, Chinese, other Asian, Middle Eastern, Black African or African-Caribbean ethnic backgrounds

Referral methods: e-RS
Patients referred into UCLH will be referred into the Behavioural Support for Obesity Prescribing (BSOP) programme on behalf of the GP as this is a requirement as part of the NHS England model and supports patients with nutrition, physical activity, self-care and long-term behaviour change alongside medication.
The behavioural support offer includes remote group sessions covering topics such as understanding GLP-1, food and nutrition, movement, emotional eating, sleep, stress, maintaining motivation and planning for longer-term change.
In NCL this service is provided by Living Well, Taking Control LLP. Further details on wraparound care are available on the NHS England website.
