Walk-in X-ray services are available for GP direct access at NMUH, and GP direct referrals for fluoroscopy are available by appointment for barium swallows and meals. Results for X-rays are typically returned to the referrer and GP within 7-10 working days, fluoroscopy results may take up to 28 days. If not received, enquire by email

How to Refer
EMIS form
Referral methods: Email, Hand to Patient
Routine imaging requests
- Complete the Imaging Request Form – NMUH form
Patients can bring in a paper referral form, alternatively the form can be emailed to northmid.radiology@nhs.net
GP direct-access urgent suspected cancer imaging requests
- Complete the Urgent Direct Access Imaging Request Form (adult & paed) Suspected Cancer – NCL form and email to northmid.radiology@nhs.net
If imaging supports referral for urgent suspected cancer (USC), a separate USC referral form will need to be completed (see relevant USC service page for details, search 'urgent suspected cancer').
Please note
- To avoid delay complete all necessary information including a signature/GMC and date on the form. Failure to do this may cause delays to patient imaging.
- Non-medical referrers need to be approved by the trust before requesting examinations involving ionising and non-ionising radiation.
- Patients must attend for X-ray within 90 days of receipt of the referral form.
- For emailed requests please remind patients that they will NOT receive an appointment for their X-ray.
