Barnet

The Barnet Home Oxygen Service is available to patients on the service case load and new referrals made to the service. 

Barnet Home Oxygen Service has responsibility for:

  • clinical assessments & review check ups
  • risk assessments
  • oxygen prescription changes
  • additional secondary/temporary oxygen supply 
  • authorisation of removal 

Provider oxygen company has responsibility for: 

  • equipment provision 
  • supplies/removal 
  • equipment maintenance 
  • fire risk assessment
  • patient information 

Types of oxygen treatment 

There are three different forms of home oxygen therapy: 

  • Long-term oxygen therapy (LTOT). Oxygen prescription used for up to 16 hours a day or more. This is usually for indoor use only. 
  • Ambulatory oxygen therapy (AMBOT/AOT). Portal oxygen used to help you keep active and mobile. This is usually carried around for outdoor use.
  • Palliative oxygen therapy (POT). An oxygen prescription made with the particular focus of alleviating specific respiratory symptoms presentations
