December 2023 update
The South London and Maudsley (SLAM) Adult Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Autism Outpatient Service remains temporarily closed to new national referrals. This closure will allow SLAM to reduce significant waiting lists. A further update will be available in June 2024.
All accepted referrals received prior to 13 January 2023 will be honoured for assessment and/or treatment, including those on the waiting list.
The service will remain open to new referrals requesting medical reviews and follow-ups for patients with an established diagnosis of a genetic disorder associated with an established behavioural phenotype (e.g. 22q11 deletion syndrome).
Any referrals for adults autism diagnosis should be directed to the Camden and Islington NHS Trust Adult Autism Diagnostic and Consultation Service.
Patients in Barnet, Enfield and Haringey who require an ADHD assessment should be referred to the Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health Trust Adult ADHD service.
Patients in Camden and Islington who require an ADHD assessment should be referred to the Camden and Islington NHS Trust Adult ADHD Clinic.
If you require more immediate advice about how to work with an autistic patient, the National Autistic Society's Help and Support team is available for general autism information and advice.
How to Refer

The referral email should contain an overview of the reason for the referral, in addition to outlining any other relevant information (e.g. contact with mental health services).
Agreement to fund will be required before the assessment can be undertaken. The request for this will come direct to the joint commissioners from SLAM.
