Evidence-based interventions and clinical standards (EBICS)

NCL Wide

If you believe that your patient meets all the required EBICS criteria, then a referral should then be made directly to the provider of choice.

A referral letter should be attached and include the relevant information that demonstrates adherence to the policy.
GP practices will no longer need to complete the EBICS application form.
The secondary care provider will also be responsible for checking compliance against the EBICS policy before proceeding with treatment.

If you have an issue in relation to EBICS, please raise it with the NCL EBICS Team via email. e: nclicb.ebics-policy@nhs.net.

Supporting documentation

The NCL ICB EBICS policy, a policy toolkit (developed for healthcare professionals to support implementation; including FAQs for GPs, clinicians and residents, as well as key messages and an overview of changes made to the policy) and a change sheet (highlighting the latest updates to the policy) are available to download from Useful resources.

Feedback

Feedback on the NCL EBICS policy is welcomed and can be made by completing the NCL EBICS feedback form (see Useful resources).
e: scwcsu.hpsu@nhs.net

If a clinician wants to apply for an intervention that is not currently within EBICS, or is made based on clinical exceptionality or rarity, an application should then be made via an Individual Funding Request (IFR).

How to refer in relation to EBICS criteria

If after reviewing the NCL ICB EBICS policy you believe that your patient meets the required criteria, then a referral should be completed, including the relevant information that demonstrates adherence to the policy. Please also refer to Appendix 2 (page 111 of the NCL ICB EBICS Policy), which outlines the process for a procedure subject to EBICS.
