SHIP training: Rethinking HIV management for GPs

This new SHIP training is not about devolving HIV care to GPs. However, the care of HIV patients lacks a primary care perspective.

  • Come and learn what the causes of sickness and death are.
  • Help develop a holistic annual review process for HIV patients that keeps an eye on the main risks, whilst being pragmatic about our lack of time.
  • What potential is there for practice nurse and pharmacist involvement?
  • Take away two simple audits for you and your team.

Learning objectives:

  • learn the commoner causes of death and co-morbidity in HIV patients
  • develop primary care strategies to intervene
  • devolve appropriate responsibilities across the primary care team
  • co-develop a primary care annual review
  • learn 2 simple audits of HIV care
  • learn management strategies for the patient not engaged with secondary HIV care

This SHIP training is available for free for all Islington GPs who have completed both SHIP GP Key Issues and SHIP Blood Borne Virus sessions within the last five years. We recommend that one GP per practice attends.

Lunch provided at 1pm. Session starts at 1:30pm.

Funding available: £300 backfill for attendance + £150 audit completion.

This training will also take place on Tuesday 12 October
