SHIP Rethinking HIV Management for GPs

Please be aware that the dates for this course have changed. This page will be updated once the new ones have been confirmed.

This new Sexual Health in Practice (SHIP) training is not about devolving HIV care to GPs, however the care of HIV patients lacks a primary care perspective.

GPs are invited to come and learn what the causes of sickness and death are and to help develop a holistic annual review process for HIV patients that keeps an eye on the main risks while also being pragmatic about lack of time.

Learning objectives include:

  • learning the commoner causes of death and co-morbidity in HIV patients
  • developing primary care strategies to intervene
  • devolving appropriate responsibilities across the primary care team
  • co-developing a primary care annual review
  • learning two simple audits of HIV care
  • learning management strategies for the patient not engaged with secondary HIV care

Ideally, GPs attending should have completed the SHIP Core Training for GPs course within the last five years, but this is not mandatory.

It is recommended that one GP per practice attends.

The following funding is available:

  • £300 backfill for attendance
  • £150 audit completion.

To book onto a session, email clinicallead@shiptraining.org.uk with you name, role, practice and any dietary or access requirements.
