Insomnia Education Session

Insomnia is common in primary care and severely affects the quality of life of people suffering from it. It also increases the risk of a person developing other mental and physical illnesses.

Insomnia is highly treatable with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), which is the NICE-recommended treatment, yet this is rarely provided and sleep hygiene is much less effective.

CBT-I techniques are simple to learn and pass on to patients, and so this session will cover:

  • the most effective components of CBT-I
  • how GPs and other healthcare professionals can incorporate CBT-I methods into short patient consultations
  • facts and common myths about sleep
  • medications.
