CPD: The Clinical Assessment, Diagnosis & Management of Adult Asthma

This three-part e-learning module is suitable for nurses, nursing assistants and allied health professionals who wish to enhance their knowledge and skills in asthma using evidence-based guidance.

Further details on learning outcomes are outlined below. 

Learning outcomes:

  • apply the latest asthma guidance
  • understand the diagnostic criteria to reach a robust diagnosis 
  • identify the goals of asthma treatment and the challenges 
  • understand the treatment options and tailor them to the patient 
  • recognise patients with suboptimal asthma control at risk of exacerbation and hospital admission and how to address this, knowing when to refer
  • provide a good quality review with supported self-management.

The course is delivered over six weeks online with a mixture of coursework and live sessions. It is worth ten hours of CPD and a certficate will be provided.

  • structure and function of a normal respiratory system
  • asthma on the inside: the pathophysiological changes that occur in asthma
  • asthma on the outside: clinical signs and symptoms
  • the importance of history taking and the relevance of objective tests
  • assessing the probability of asthma
  • making a diagnosis in line with current guidance
