Low Vision Service
NCL WideProvided By
The Low Vision Service provided by the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) is for adult patients who are struggling with daily living due to their vision and adults with learning disabilities. The patient does not have to be registered as sight-impaired. The service is fully funded by the NHS.
The service offers:
- Low vision assessments for adults with visual impairment or sight loss
- Specialised NHS eye tests for adults with learning disabilities
- Domiciliary low vision service for the housebound
- Domiciliary NHS eye tests for housebound adults with learning disabilities
- Integrated care with vision rehabilitation specialists from the five boroughs
- General Ophthalmic Services (GOS) eye tests are available for those who are eligible.
Eligibility Criteria
Inclusions
NCL residents aged 18+, or those registered with an NCL GP who:
- have a sight problem after correction with standard glasses or contact lens (patient must have had an eyesight test or a diagnosis for their condition)
- are experiencing difficulties in their normal daily activities as a result of visual impairment (the perception of what constitutes a restriction in a person's everyday life will vary between individuals, therefore no strict criteria based on social/clinical impact has been set)
- an adult with learning disabilities who struggles to access mainstream primary eyecare.
