Complex Hypertension Clinic at Royal Free Hospital for young or resistant hypertensive patients.

The Thursday morning clinic provides a co-ordinated diagnostic service for patients who have difficulty managing hypertension, with investigations before clinic review to minimise hospital visits.


Eligibility Criteria

Inclusions

  • patients up to 40 years old with hypertension
  • patients resistant to three anti-hypertensive agents at maximum tolerated doses
  • patients who require investigation of secondary hypertension
  • patient compliance with anti-hypertensive therapy

Exclusions

  • patients under 16 years
  • renal/kidney cancer referrals (abnormal renal cyst, possible renal malignancy) - please refer to urology, either advice and guidance if unsure or two week wait as appropriate
  • referrals to National Amyloidosis Centre. If you wish to refer to the National Amyloidosis Centre for amyloidosis or periodic fever syndrome, refer to the information on the University College London Centre for Amyloidosis and Acute Phase Proteins.
