Colorectal Surgery Clinic: UCLH
NCL WideProvided By
All patients referred to the Colorectal Surgery Clinic (CSC) are triaged by a clinician. At triage, some patients will be referred onto the Rapid Access Pathway (RAS), where investigations are requested before the team decide on their next steps (i.e. straight to test). Patients with normal investigations who don't require surgical intervention may be discharged without speaking to a colorectal surgeon in clinic.
CSC kindly asks that you inform patients of this when referring into the service to aid with managing patient expectations.
CSC will also make this clear when communicating with the patient.
The colorectal service is not designed to replace the urgent suspected cancer (USC previously known as 2WW) colorectal cancer referral process.
Eligibility Criteria
Inclusions
Patients who you suspect will need surgical intervention for benign colorectal symptoms e.g.
- haemorrhoids
- anal fissures
- fistula in ano
- pilonidal sinus
- complex diverticular disease.
Exclusions
Patients requiring general gastroenterology investigation e.g.
- for first diagnosis of inflammatory bowel disease
- irritable bowel syndrome
- polyp surveillance.
