Royal Free London has introduced a new internal referral process within its Cerner Millennium electronic patient record (EPR) system. This change applies across Barnet Hospital, Chase Farm Hospital, Edgware Hospital, Finchley Memorial Hospital and Royal Free Hospital and aims to improve clinical visibility, reduce delays and enhance patient safety.

The process involves structured referrals by clinicians, with clear triage outcomes, ensuring traceability and accountability, in line with the NCL consultant-to-consultant referral policy.

Referral processes for same day emergency care, urgent suspected cancer (2WW), and within-speciality pathways remain unchanged.

This new process does not apply at North Middlesex University Hospital due to a different EPR system.
