Reminder: Offer PSA testing to men at high risk of prostate cancer

NCL Wide

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men. Black men have double the risk (1 in 4) of dying from it compared with white men, and their risk begins earlier, from age 45.

The North Central London Cancer Alliance Urology Expert Reference Group would like to remind GPs to use opportunistic PSA testing for patients who are:

  • Black or mixed Black heritage aged 45 to 80 years
  • or 45-80 years with a clear family history of prostate or breast cancer.

Informed conversations and proactive testing can help earlier diagnosis.

For more information, see the PSA testing in primary care letter. For asymptomatic patients, follow the Prostate Cancer Risk Management Programme.
