Medicines Supply Notification: Shortage of Ramipril 1.25mg capsules

NCL Wide

Ramipril 1.25mg capsules are anticipated to be out of stock until 29 May 2026.

Clinicians should not initiate new patients on ramipril 1.25mg capsules until the supply issue has resolved.

Where patients have insufficient supply to last until the resupply date, prescribers should:

  • consider prescribing an alternative ACE inhibitor or ARB, (refer to alternatives for supporting information)
  • establish if a dose lower than the usual starting dose is required, taking into account the indication for use, treatment history, comorbidities, ensuring that the patient is not intolerant to any of the excipients and is counselled on the appropriate dose; and
  • monitor patients to ensure blood pressure remains controlled and the new agent is tolerated, titrating dose as needed, (refer to actions for supporting information)
  • advise patients to seek medical advice if they experience dizziness or light-headedness after switching.

Supply may be limited in accordance with Serious Shortage Protocol, SSP087 for those presenting with a prescription for more than one month’s supply of ramipril 1.25mg capsules.

Please refer to the MSN/2026/022 for full supporting information and the Specialist Pharmacy Medicines Supply Tool (login required).
