Medicines Supply Notification: Phenobarbital 30mg and 60mg tablets

The Department of Health and Social Care has issued a medicines supply notification for phenobarbital 30mg and 60mg tablets. 

Actions for prescribers

Do not initiate new patients on phenobarbital 30mg tablets (Teva) or 60mg tablets (Teva or Accord) until the supply issues resolve. The anticipated resupply dates for Teva is 27 March 2026 and Accord 27 February 2026.

Clinicians should refer to the Specialist Pharmacy Service Medicines Shortage Tool MSN/2026/010 for the full supporting information, alternative phenobarbital preparations and recommended actions where existing patients have insufficient stock.
