Include Helicobacter pylori stool antigen test for upper GI cancer referrals

BarnetEnfield

GPs are asked to include a Helicobacter pylori stool antigen test result, when referring patients via e-RS, to the urgent suspected cancer (formerly 2WW) upper gastrointestinal cancer service at Barnet Hospital and Chase Farm Hospital.

The referral criteria and clinical guidelines for suspected oesophageal and stomach cancer remain unchanged:

  • Gastrointestinal endoscopy suggestive of oesophageal or stomach cancer.
  • Dysphagia.
  • Upper abdominal mass consistent with stomach cancer.
  • Age ≥50 with weight loss and any one of the following: reflux, upper abdominal pain, or dyspepsia.
