Estriol 1mg/g (0.1%) vaginal cream is the NCL preferred choice

NCL Wide

Estriol vaginal cream is an oestrogen hormone treatment for vaginal atrophy and related menopausal symptoms.

There are two strengths available:

  • Estriol 0.01% vaginal cream 80g tube providing 16 doses
  • Estriol 1mg/g (0.1%) vaginal cream 15g tube providing 30 doses.

Estriol 1mg/g (0.1%) vaginal cream is the NCL ICB preferred product.

It is significantly more cost effective and its higher strength means less volume of cream is required to achieve the same effect.  The pack size is smaller and the tube lasts longer so estriol 1mg/g (0.1%) cream is more environmentally friendly than estriol 0.01% cream.

A patient information leaflet and AccuRx message is available to support the switch from estriol 0.01% vaginal cream to estriol 1mg/ml (0.1%) vaginal cream.

Patients should be counselled on the reduced application amount and that the tube will last twice as long.

ScriptSwitch messaging has been updated and engagement is ongoing with hospital and community gynaecology teams regarding the NCL preferred choice.
