Eating disorders and Yom Kippur: A guide for professionals

Barnet

Yom Kippur (the holiest day of the Jewish religious holidays) can be a fraught and complex time for anyone struggling with an eating disorder (ED) or is in recovery.

This guide created by Noa’s Eating Disorder team explains what Yom Kippur is and why it is such a complex day for someone with an ED or who has recovered from an ED. The guide gives information about being able to consult a Rabbi about abstaining from fasting and practical ideas about how people can be supported pre and post fast meals. This year, Yom Kippur begins on Friday 11 October and ends on Saturday 12 October.

If you have Jewish patients in your care this booklet will be useful to you and your team.
