Core Community Mental Health teams update: Introducing the Beseen pre-assessment questionnaire

NCL Wide

North London NHS Foundation Trust is now offering patients referred to the Adult Community Single Point of Access for routine (non-urgent) referrals for mental health support in Barnet, Enfield, and Haringey the option to use the Beseen platform as part of their assessment.

Implementation for Camden and Islington is planned in 2026.

What is Beseen?

Beseen is a secure online questionnaire that enables patients to describe, in their own words, why they are seeking help. Alongside this narrative, patients complete a set of standardised measures (e.g., GAD-7, PHQ-9) with transparent, verifiable scoring.

Why use Beseen?

  • Provides a simple and confidential way to share experiences and treatment goals.
  • Helps triage and assessment teams gain a clearer understanding of patient needs.
  • Streamlines the assessment process, reduces administrative burden, and frees up clinical time for patient care.
  • Other mental health Trusts report improved waiting time performance.

Patients have also shared that completing the questionnaire helps them prepare for their appointment and reduces the need to repeat their story.

Important

  • Using Beseen does not replace the usual referral or assessment process.
  • Completing the questionnaire is entirely optional. Patients who choose not to use it will still receive the support they need.
  • GPs and other referrers do not need to take any action; this is for information only.
