NCL Diabetes Prevention Programme introduces self-referral SMS template

NCL Wide

An SMS template has been embedded onto AccuRx to help increase self-referrals to the NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme (NDPP), delivered by Living Well Taking Control.

The template allows GPs to send a pre-written text message directly to eligible patients, inviting them to self-refer onto the NDP. GPs only need to input three key details: HbA1c result, NHS number, and blood test date. The template also includes an attachment with instructions on how patients can self-refer, along with further information about the NDPP.

This method is significantly faster than completing a full referral form and improves accessibility by streamlining communication. The template is searchable in AccuRx under NCL: Diabetes Prevention Programme Self-Referral.

If your practice is unable to view the template, it may be because the relevant user has not yet been added to your AccuRx system. Alternatively, if the user has been added, your practice may be included in the second rollout of the template.

For questions or support in accessing or using the template, contact Luke Frampton, Compliance & GP Liaison Officer, NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme.
