Sickle Cell Disease and the Cardio-pulmonary System: What do I need to know?

Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals Specialist Care will be holding a webinar hosted by Dr Emmanuel Ako, Consultant cardiologist at Royal Brompton Hospital.

The webinar will focus on Sickle cell disease, a common inherited blood disorder, the disease’s pathophysiology with its common complications. Dr Ako will discuss how to best manage these patients in primary care, when to refer and what special advice to give for the COVID-19 pandemic.

Learning objectives:

  • outline what sickle cell disease is and the clinical states that result from sickling
  • describe the consequences of cardiopulmonary complications of sickle cell disease
  • how do I manage patients in general practice and when should I refer to a specialist
  • discuss COVID-19 and its impact on sickle cell patients
