Paediatric Asthma Education Event

Asthma has been identified as a significant cause of morbidity and mortality nationally. The recent National Review of Asthma Deaths identified under-diagnosis, unmonitored/inappropriate prescribing and lack of clear asthma management plans as significant factors. In Camden recorded prevalence in children is approximately half of predicted and the majority of children attending A+E or requiring admission for asthma are not on an asthma register.

Often in primary care we are uncertain about making a diagnosis and prescribing patterns show that we over-prescribe relievers and under-prescribe preventers. This half day session on asthma in children, with a focus on primary care and case-based examples, discussed ways in making a diagnosis and in developing an excellent patient-held asthma management plans.
