My Health Matters: Learning Disablities in Barnet

Barnet Integrated Learning Disability Service (BILDS) has teamed up with Barnet Mencap, Healthwatch Barnet and other local services to arrange this My Health Matters event, which is now in its fourth year. It is an event to promote and encourage better physical and mental health for people with a learning disability in Barnet. This is an event for providers and family carers.

BILDS plans to hold another event for people with a learning disability in 2022.

Covid-19 has had a big impact on everyone including people with a learning disability. It has been difficult to access services that have moved online and become harder to connect with each other.

This event is a chance to learn about some new services in Barnet as well as some Covid-specific support. It will also be discussing annual health checks and guidance on how to access vaccines for people with a learning disability.

It will be an opportunity to hear about up-to-date practice and ask questions and get involved. There will be a series of talks from different people working locally including a chance to learn some new Makaton signs.

Speakers will include:

  • Justine Maher, Specialist Nurse in Sexual Health for Learning Disabilities, The Bridge Clinic, CNWL
  • Deirdre Reilly, Clinical Psychologist, Barnet Learning Disability Service
  • The Community Nursing Team, Barnet Learning Disability Service
