Adult safeguarding and domestic abuse (morning)

GPs and practice nurses are invited to attend this half day training covering adult safeguarding and domestic abuse in conjunction with the IRIS (Identification and Referral to Improve Safety) advocate educators. The aims of the workshop are to increase awareness of domestic abuse and how it presents in a health setting and to increase confidence of managing cases within primary care and of current referral pathways. This workshop will also update you on legislative changes in the Care Act 2014 relating to domestic abuse and adult safeguarding. There will also be a safeguarding adults with care and support needs section covering the application of the Mental Capacity Act in general practice. After this training you will be able to: Define domestic violence and abuse Understand the impact on health and health related presentations Understand the relevance to general practice - your patients How to ask the question within a GP consultation How to record safely within the EMIS record including the HARKS electronic prompt Responding to a disclosure and referral pathways (including risk indicators and a safety question) Safeguarding adults and children within the context of Domestic abuse
